THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE rises from the ashes of french screamo band, Taciturn. The story begins when former members decided to look for a "new" kind of extreme music. The will to create something heavier and darker than what the existing scene was producing quickly led them to cross genres and give birth to a more blackened and chaotic music.

Le tocsin n'est pas la cloche de cathédrale dont les harmoniques sublimes font accéder au Royaume de Dieu : c'est une cloche dissonante qui donne l'ordre d'évacuation face à une catastrophe imminente. Tocsin, troisième album de YEAR OF NO LIGHT, ne joue plus sur la dualité : le post-metal du groupe tire sur le doom metal mais reste rapide. Chaque répétition ne fait qu'augmenter un peu plus la pression. Aucune issue et un désespoir total, sous l'indifférence des étoiles. Ce Tocsin est sublime...

La mine, c'est le lieu qui met le plus en exergue les disparités sociales : d'un côté ils sont des milliers à descendre dans les entrailles de la terre, de l'autre une poignée s'élève socialement ; d'un côté ils meurent par centaines sous l'effet des coups de grisou, de l'autre ils consolident leurs richesses. Cette dualité, elle traverse aussi Kentucky : d'un côté le black metal atmosphérique asphyxiant, de l'autre l'americana et le folklore héroïque. Panopticon est dans la lutte permanente !

A 10(0)th birthday gift of two new tracks from BAN, plus a cover (it’s Pitchshifter, so this Nottingham boy’s happy!). Tetraktys is pure, unadulterated BAN and my pick of the two. Whereas, Lighteater has an almost psych-y, languid pace and a satisfying atmospheric character that seems to pull at your senses the more you listen. Debemur Morti is a fave label of mine. They’re a valuable part of underground music and their roster/back catalogue is magnificent, so here’s to the next 10 years!
